Everyone blogs about cute Easter ideas, bunny-shaped homemade confections, and handwoven baskets. But here’s what they’re NOT talking about. What to do when your children outgrow the Easter Bunny… but you don’t really want to abandon the tradition. That’s where these boho bunny bags come in.

First of all, let’s tackle the elephant in the room. I’m talking about my children, and they aren’t even children anymore. They’re young adults. Who hate the Easter Bunny. But I don’t want to abandon yet another nostalgic childhood tradition. At the same time, I also don’t feel like sorting through all the stuff in my closets to locate those big-ass baskets that my children don’t even care about anymore. And I definitely don’t want to vacuum up plastic grass the day after Easter.

So here’s an easy solution for those of you who want to join my club. Let’s celebrate the sacred meaning of the holiday. Let’s break bread with our loved ones. But let’s not worry about elaborate  Easter baskets filled to the brim with gourmet chocolates and empty calories. Well, maybe some Peeps.

These Boho bunny bags are ridiculously easy to assemble. All you need is the following:

  • paper bag
  • 2 pieces of wide ribbon (for the ears)
  • glue gun
  • paint or colored markers
  • tissue paper

First, I quickly painted a simple face on the front of the bag, using craft paints I had on hand. Secondly, I folded 2 pieces of wide ribbon in half and glued them to the inside top of the bag for ears. Then I filled the bag with a few candy bars and a gift certificate, then topped it off with some beautiful tissue paper. Lastly, I poured myself a glass of chilled wine and thought how damned clever of the Easter Bunny to come up with such a stress-free basket for my bunny-hating children.

The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!

  1. Oh my, I totally get exactly what you are saying. Our kids are between 10 and 24 now and are SO over the Easter bunny! I used to love preparing fun easter egg hunts for them with clues and everything. About 30 minutes ago I was popping a few eggs and chocolate bunnies into bags for them ready for Sunday, I’m sure they won’t complain about being given chocolate but probably wouldn’t notice if I didn’t bother!!

  2. These are so darn cute! Thanks for sharing the tutorial! Will I be seeing you at Haven this summer? I hope so!
