I know, I know. Cyberspace is overflowing with recipes for green smoothies. But this one is more of a CLEAN smoothie than anything else. No added sweeteners. No packaged protein powders. Just clean, green ingredients.

I first read about this smoothie on BuzzFeed, just a short little write-up on this legendary green drink which is all the rage in New York’s Terri cafes (3 locations: Chelsea, Midtown, and the Financial District). They even shared the recipe. So, with just a little tweaking (I use unsweetened almond milk instead of sweetened), I gave it a try.

Ingredients
  1. 1 cup kale
  2. 1 TB almond butter
  3. 1/2 pear
  4. 1/2 banana
  5. 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
Instructions
  1. Pre-batch smoothies by packaging the first 4 ingredients in Ziploc freezer bags. Add the almond milk when ready to mix. Place all ingredients in a blender and mix together.
Notes
  1. I think the taste is great but not overly sweet. If you like, you can use sweetened almond milk instead.

What I like most about this recipe is the fact that I can pre-batch it. Just toss the ingredients (all but the milk) into individual containers and freeze. When ready to use, add the milk and whip it up in a blender. Oh, and did I tell you that it’s incredibly filling and… only 4 Weight Watcher points?

One last thing. You may be wondering why I’m including this post in my Green Beauty series. Beauty is not only about what we put on our bodies but what we put in them as well. And you can’t start your day off much healthier than with this delicious, little smoothie.
