my breakup with minimalism

minimalism

Although I do generally stay on top of trends, I’m not one to always follow the crowd. Until four years ago, when I followed the Pied Piper of minimalism right off a cliff into a doomed social experiment. My husband and I traded in our sprawling suburban home for an urban condo a fourth its size. No basement, no garage, and (my most devastating loss) no pantry

I’ve  never been a packrat, so minimalism held much appeal to me. Give up my formal living room? No problem. Live with fewer shoes? No problem. Live with no pantry? Something’s gotta give. And it did. After our big experiment in downsizing, we just recently discovered the wisdom of rightsizing and packed our boxes once again. Which explains why I’ve been absent from the blogging world the past few weeks.

Lots more could be shared about the lessons I learned from living small, but for now I’m just head over heels with my new home! And I have so many future DIY projects I can’t wait to share with you. Like a giant macrame wall hanging in my stairwell, a french country garden in my courtyard, and my first attempt at a Moroccan boucherouite rug. And to whet your appetite bit more, here’s a peek inside my  new home.

Now think “Modern French Fusion.” That’s what I’m calling the look I’m going for – a blend of modern French + Scandinavian + a few Moroccan accents. I’ll be sharing lots of DIYs as well as  all I’m learning about how today’s generation incorporates traditional French decor in modern homes. minimalsim

  1. Sorry, not accustomed to commenting on blogs; forgot to include my name. I posted the 5/31 at 6:01PM post.

  2. Just found you and your blog! In LOVE!!! I’m encouraged that while living small has it’s rewards, downsizing from 2,400 sq ft to 570 sq ft has got me gloomy. I too am a creative bohemian nature child and I need my space to create, display and store. My plan for 2018-2019 is to build a farmhouse addition of 1,100 sq ft onto my current red barn ‘apartment’. Wish me luck and thanks so much for your website and your wisdom.

    1. So glad you stopped by, and your plan sounds wonderful! I say go for it! And best of luck to you!

  3. The new house looks beautiful, similar to one we lived in while in Canada. Can’t wait to see your ideas.
