I can tell you the exact moment I fell in love with capes. I was in the fourth grade, and I actually called it a poncho. My mother had just finished sewing it, and I was over the moon ecstatic to wear it to school the next day. It was fire-engine red cotton with white ball fringe all around the edges. (I can sense your jealousy.)

Now capes are making a comeback, and they are taking many forms.

Check out this cute (and affordable!) poncho from Urban Outfitters.Flashback to the sixties maybe?

And I also love the military spin on them this winter. Here’s a cute one from ASOS.

And if you’re going to festive holiday soirees, this elegant capelet from ModCloth is a must-have!

If you feel ambitious and want to make your own, here’s a sweet pattern from Burda for a Belted Cape 12/2014.

So there you have it. If you’re looking for a fun cape or poncho, there’s many out there from which to choose. They’re sassy. They’re fun. And besides, aren’t we all fourth-graders at heart?
