vintage egg carton easter basket

Perhaps I’m showing my age, but I find it interesting that cardboard egg cartons are now described as vintage. But hey, it makes this cute craft sound even more charming than it already is! Here’s my twist on upcycling a vintage egg carton into a whimsical and charming Easter basket.

supplies needed:

step 1 – cut paper

Begin by making a template. These cartons are a little irregularly shaped, so place a piece of paper over the top lid of the egg carton and mark lines where to cut. Once your template is made, use it as a pattern when cutting the printed paper you plan to use. I used origami paper and found it to be lightweight and easy to manipulate. Plus, I love the beautiful array of designs!

step 2 – apply paper

Using a small sponge, apply a light coat of Mod Podge onto the back of the paper. Then gently fit it on the egg carton lid, smoothing out the wrinkles as you go.

Go over the edges of the paper with Mod Podge a final time, using a small brush for detailing. Let dry.

step 3 – fill with goodies

This is the fun part! I feel the bohemian flavor of my vintage baskets are perfect for girls. I’m going to gift them to my two daughters-in-law. I filled them each with chocolates and a stunning handmade necklace from one of favorite Etsy designers.

I also have a third young lady in my family. And although she’s only 7 months old, she deserves one of these pretty vintage baskets, too. I’m filling hers with little sock roses.

The options are endless. Select paper you love, goodies you can’t resist, and have fun filling these adorable vintage egg carton baskets!
