diy yarn bouquet

Gifts don’t have to be expensive. Sometimes they can be wildflowers or dried lavender and skeins of unused yard from your craft closet…  A beautiful yarn bouquet just to remind someone that they are cherished.

supplies needed:

  • balls of yarn
  • dried lavender
  • sturdy wire or crochet needles
  • tissue paper
  • paper grocery bag

step 1 – prepare the yarn

Make a “stem” for each ball of yarn. Extra crochet needles work well or pieces of any sturdy wire. My goal for this project was to use supplies I had on hand rather than spend money on a bagful of new supplies. I actually came across a roll of plastic-coated wire and found that it worked well for my stems.

step 2 – assemble the bouquet

First spread out several sheets of tissue paper for a base. Add a cluster of dried lavender stems.

Next add the “stems” of yarn, while sprinkling in even more pieces of lavender. I also tossed in a few fresh flowers and greenery stems. I then wrapped the tissue paper snugly around the bouquet and secured with a piece of twine.

step 3 – make a paper sleeve

You’ll find the bouquet is a bit heavy. To better protect it, I cut open a paper grocery bag and wrapped it around the bouquet. I used Scotch tape to keep it closed, then I tied a piece of twine around the base. Turns out I loved the industrial writing on the bag. It added a rustic, organic touch to the bouquet.

So next time you want to gift someone something special, it doesn’t have to be expensive. The best treasures may be hiding somewhere in your own home.
