doll head planter

I’ve tried. Really. To post wholesome crafts filled with beauty and savvy and to keep my id at bay. But every now and then, I have to set my inner self free. And if you don’t laugh at this doll head planter, even a little, then you probably wouldn’t be my friend.

My neighbor somehow came into possession of this creepy doll and generously agreed to let me have it. Once I laid eyes on it, I immediately knew its destiny. Serendipitously, she also gave it to me while I was in the middle of propagating off shoots from my spider plant. Yep, sometimes life just gives you roses.

supplies needed:

  • doll or doll parts
  • pebbles & potting soil
  • plant
  • saucer
  • a sense of humor

step 1 – beheading

I know. This tutorial just gets creepier and creepier. But beheading the doll is the first step. And it takes a bit of elbow grease.

step 2 – prepping

Make a small opening at the base of the planter (head) to allow for drainage.

step 3 – planting

Place the head on a saucer. Fill the bottom with pebbles then top with potting soil. Make a small indention in the top of the soil and add a small plant. (If using a fresh cutting from a spider plant, make sure the plantlet has a small shiny node on the root.)

The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!

  1. I really think this is very creative! Just imagine the different kinds of ” hair” you could make with different plants. Sorry about the person that unsubscribed. Some people only see the forest but never notice the tree! Thanks for sharing.

  2. I’m not gonna lie, I thought this was pretty horrendous (in a totally hilarious way) when I first saw it, but when I got to the decapitated doll with hair photo I feel the true horror was unleashed! This is brilliantly awful 😀
I’d never have one in my house but I have a friend who I’m sure would have a row of these on her window sill if she could! I’m sure I saw someone online who had a flower bed filled with Barbies, buried up to the waists, this planter would go nicely with that vibe. I wish I could add emojis to this comment, I feel they could express my thoughts better than words right now!

    1. Oh Julie, you are so funny! It is horrendous! But I’ll take “brilliantly awful!” lol I can say this – it is definitely a conversation piece.

  3. You definitely linked this project up at the right place because this is right up my macabre sense of humor alley. Featuring when my party opens up !

  4. I’ve seen baby doll heads mounted and framed. This is the first planter I’ve seen. I kinda like it!

  5. I love it! My dog “gifted” me an old creepy baby doll that he had shredded & beheaded all over the front yard. I threw away all of the stuffing, but I kept the arms, legs, and head to use for some unknown future project. I was thinking about putting the head on my antique dress form, but I like the idea of using it as a planter much better! I may need to make a silicone mold of it so that I can make a whole bunch of creepy baby doll planters. Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Sorry I love your work normally, but this is macabre 😩 I am unsubscribing.

  7. I like this. I do however have a question. Do you glue the head to the plate?
