7 items for a hip green kitchen

I don’t make my own cleaning products. I don’t compost. And I don’t hug trees. But I have been committed to keeping reusable items in my kitchen. I’ve been paperless (and plastic-less) for several years now, and it’s wonderful not having to add plastic wrap, paper towels and plastic bags to my grocery list. I’m on my way to a green kitchen.

cloth paper towels

I’ve been using these for a few years. I love that their plastic snaps allow them to be used in the microwave; and I prefer a gray terry underside rather than white, because it hides stains. Left: The Tailored Home; right: Less is Always More

food wraps

go with glass

I know, glass means more dishes to wash. But it’s not only economical, it’s healthy! Left: Fiestaware; upper rt: Amazon; lower rt: Pyrex

bowl covers

I love my bowl covers and use them all the time. Kudos to those who came up with such cute ones! Upper left: Marleys Monsters; lower left: Anne Riggs; rt: Semi Sustainable Goods

produce bags

When I first began using mesh or cloth bags for produce, it felt awkward. I was so used to ziplock baggies. No more in this green kitchen!  But now I’m hooked. Left: Oh Little Rabbit; rt: Naturally Sensible

  1. Thank you for sharing, Wendy! Food wraps and mesh bags are my favorites. My heart sinks every time I see those plastic bags everywhere. In my opinion, this is a great alternative to them. And how cute these food wraps really are!

  2. Oh, I love these items. Some of them I currently use. And thank you for the idea of cloth bags – it seems so cute and very easy to DIY.
