leather wrap necklace

One of my readers requested a simple tutorial for a leather wrap necklace. I have to admit, I intended to write one right away, but life got in the way. Nonetheless, here it is. And I’m surprised at just how easy this boho leather choker is to make.

supplies needed:

  • leather cording
  • metal shank button (I’m in love with these rustic buttons!)
  • silver charm
  • jump rings – 1 small & 1 large
  • metal or silver plated crimp bead or small tube bead (find one that slides snugly onto the leather)

step 1 – create a loop

Use a piece of soft leather cording that is 2 yards in length. Fold in half. At the center of the cord, tie a regular knot to create a loop that is just large enough for the button to pass through. See photo below.

step 2 – add findings

Thread the metal crimp bead through the loose ends of the cord and slide it close to the loop, as shown below.

Now attach a small jump ring to a silver charm.

Use a larger jump ring to attach the charm to the leather necklace.

step 3 – attach button

Lastly, run one loose end of the necklace through the button (shown below). Then pull the two leather strands evenly and make knot at the very end. Trim the ends below the knot, then slide button to the end.

I love this sweet wrap necklace, but don’t hesitate to add your own creative touches with different shades of leather and various dangly charms. Give this leather wrap necklace your own signature touch!
