pieces of happy in my kitchen

pieces of happy

For Lilly, the millenial chef who recently joined My French Twist’s foodie section – Blended Palate – cooking is easy. It’s therapeutic. It’s instinctive. But for many of us, cooking isn’t second nature and we have to put a little more effort into the process. Which is precisely why I think it’s important –  no, necessary – for us to add some pieces of HAPPY to our kitchen laboratories.

I love whimsy, bohemia, and funk of all kinds. So here’s a few of my favorite finds that make me smile while I’m dicing, chopping and measuring.

measuring cups

measuring cups

I bought these animal measuring cups a couple years ago from Anthropologie. This store always seems to have funky sets on hand, each cuter than the one before.

Here’s another Anthropologie set I love – Delilah measuring cups.

And here’s the set over which I’m currently swooning – this fox theme by Kitsch’n Glam.

salad bowls

I’ve recently stolen a phrase coined by my health-conscious friend – the “mother of all salads.” She keeps a huge tossed salad in her fridge at all times, filled to the brim with an exotic medley of veggies and greens. It’s so beautiful, I momentarily forget about my cookie stash hidden in the pantry. I decided to adopt this tradition, but my “mother of all salads” is even artsier…because I found the cutest large salad bowls ever at World Market. I love, love, love these bowls!

marimekko

Anything Marimekko makes me happy. And often, great Marimekko finds show up on Amazon. I always try to keep some of their bright cocktail napkins on hand.

french Provencal linens

I fell in love with the beautiful provincial textiles of southern France years ago, long before “French Country” became a thing. My heart still skips a beat when I see one tossed over a picnic table or used casually on a sunny patio. If you don’t want to pay big bucks for one, keep an eye on Amazon.
