three easy aprons from one turkish towel

I’m going to show you how to upcycle a Turkish bath towel into not only one cute apron but three! That’s right, three easy aprons from one Turkish towel, all in different styles – a bib apron, a waist apron, and a funky little half apron with a boho vibe.

So what are you waiting for? Select a Turkish towel in colors you love, and start sewing these three sweet aprons. I prefer a lightweight towel like this one I bought from Amazon. Need more inspiration? Below are more favorites I rounded up.

step 1 – cut the towel

First, prewash the towel. Next, cut 4″ off each side of the towel. You are then left with two long strips, each measuring approximately 4″ x 66″ and one large piece measuring 31″ x 66″.

Cut the large towel piece in half, measuring 31″ from the fringed bottom. Then cut a 7″ strip off one side; set this strip aside.

Fold the 24″ x 31″ piece in half. Using an old apron as a guide, cut a curved armhole shape, as shown below.

Now turn the top edge of the apron body under; turn under a second time & stitch down.

step 2 – neck strip

Cut one of the 4″ x 66″ strips in half lengthwise, so you have two pieces that are each 2″ x 66″. Then cut one piece so it measures 2″ x 26″. Turn under both sides of this strip and press; fold in half lengthwise and press again; stitch down. (See photos below.) This will be used as the neck strip.

step 3 – waist ties

Now take the second 2″ x 66″ strip and cut in half so you have two pieces that measure 2″ x 33″. One end of each of these two strips should have tassels on it. Fold the edges, fold again, press & stitch down just like you did for the neck strip. Do this for both pieces then set aside. You now have two waist ties and one neck strip, as shown below.

step 4 – attach the neck strip

Turn the edges of the armholes under twice and pin. Attach the end of the neck strip under the fold as shown below; pin. Stitch the armhole edges down, making sure the neck strips are securely sewn down with it.

step 5 – attach the waist ties

Fold the edges of the apron sides over twice and pin in place. Stitch down.

Next, pin the un-tasseled ends of both waist ties to the top back of the apron sides. Stitch in place.

Now press the apron and enjoy! This whimsical cabana stripe bib apron is sure to become one of your favorites! Tutorials for the other two aprons will be posted soon!

The biggest compliment is a little share – pin the photo below!

  1. Thanks for thst apron idea, Turkish towels are useless compared with normal towels so it’s good to fulfill a useful option.

  2. That’s such a good use of the pattern on the original towel, I’m looking forward to seeing the other aprons from the off cuts!
